The VMOD-60 is an embedded high-performance VMEbus microcomputer based on the superscalar
MC68060 CPU. This CPU offers an integer performance of over 100 MIPS at 66MHz.
With the modularity of the mezzanine I/O bus concept MODULbus, it is fully compatible to the VMOD-40
and VMOD-32 board range of intelligent controllers. Being the high-end product of this range it covers
customer requests for high performance and scaleable system power.
The VMOD-60 is designed as a powerful system CPU as well as an intelligent controller. Due to the 3
(7) MODULbus sockets it can be equipped with all system CPU features such as SCSI, Ethernet and
Graphic. If used as a controller, the sockets can be used for digital or analog I/O, motor controllers,
field busses etc.
The VMOD-60 is equipped with the versatile VMEbus interface/buscontroller chip VIC068 (optional
VIC064), providing a standard master/slave/system controller interface in accordance with the
VMEbus specifications. The board is online software-configurable to A16, A24 andD32(D64) data
transfer capability. In slave or master mode the VMOD-60 can generate or handle any of the seven
interrupt requests including vector processing.As with buswidth, all features of the interrupt system are
online software-configurable.
The double eurocard size VMOD-60 is available in various memory configurations
from 1 to 32 MByte
of DRAM to suit the required application. The memory is placed on a piggy pack module to allow
simplified upgrading. The DRAM is partly or completely dual-ported to the VMEbus.
All versions of the VMOD-60 carry a RTC with on-chip 2KB SRAM, a battery backup
circuit prevents
data loss during power failure.
A JEDEC socket for an 8Bit EPROM offers a maximum size of 1MByte for firmware and/or operating
system memory for the MC68060 CPU. It is possible to boot either from the Flash PROM or from the
EPROM.
The Flash PROM is factory programmed and contains the RMON monitor software.
Using the Flash
PROM handler the user is able to adapt the basic PROM for his own purpose. The RMON provides a
basic software layer to achieve a large degree of hardware independence. Every operating system or
application software is based on the RMON and uses its functionality, as power-on initialisation,
configuration, bootstraps, callable I/O functions and application hooks.
Two serial interfaces (RS232) are available on the front panel sub-D connector and can be used as
console port or data transfer line. Status display LEDs indicate the board status and are available for
user applications.
The VMOD-60 software environment is fully supported with VxWorks, pSOS+ and OS-9 as powerful
real time operating systems.
